These three problems are the reason this library exists
All 60+ are ready to go. Each one says what it drills, how long it takes and whether you need to run it. Pick one, open the link, teach. No slides.
The games make the student answer, read and find out straight away whether they were right. You stop lecturing and start hosting. They stop listening and start doing.
Type a word into Ladder Phonics and it tells you which group it belongs to. Go back to that group and drill it, instead of starting over from the beginning.
Three steps. No app, no account setup, no learning curve.
Every card says what it drills, how long it runs and whether it needs you. No opening all of them to find out.
No signup, nothing to install. You tap, they watch and speak together, and it still feels like they are playing it themselves.
The game gives the feedback, so you are not the marking machine. You host and explain why.
10 categories, from kindergarten level up to adult phonics catch-up
Most classroom games are used once. These are built to be played again and again.
In many games the cards and questions are shuffled every round, so students can’t get through by memorising the answers.
Ladder Phonics has 35 sound groups, Ladder Vocabulary runs from A1 to B2, and Quick Fire has a Level up ladder. The same game takes the student further each lesson.
New games are added at no extra cost. If your students need something that isn’t here yet, members can tell me.
“I’ve taught on AmazingTalker with this library for over two years, and I’ve never run out of games.” Shari
Same games as the paid plan. Not a trial, no expiry. Tap a name and it opens.
Do not write off phonics as a kindergarten thing. Ladder Phonics runs from s / a / t all the way to past tense -ed and splitting long words into syllables. I use it with primary, secondary and university students, and with adults in their thirties and forties. Most phonics material is built around nursery songs, which older students find childish, while the adult material tends to be dense pages of text that nobody absorbs. This fills the gap in between.

Honestly, he did well and kept trying to answer me out loud, even when his sentences weren’t 100% correct. He was actively trying to respond rather than just clicking. He read the questions, but at first, he sometimes answered with single words instead of complete sentences. I used flashcards to guide him and showed him how to answer in full sentences. We practiced with about five questions, and by the end of the activity, he was able to give complete answers.Yasmin · English teacher on AmazingTalker · using the free Quick Fire Flashcards

The first two Ladder Phonics groups are open right now, no email. Group 3 adds c / k / ck / e / h, which is where students can build
cat · sat · hat · pin. That group unlocks with an email.
The two groups take about 15 minutes together, which is enough to tell whether it suits your students.
From age 6 to adults. Most games are pitched at primary level, roughly ages 6 to 12, and every game states a suggested age. For teens and adults there is Ladder Talk for everyday and Business English conversation, IELTS Speaking Room for mock speaking tests, Ladder Frames for interview and opinion answers, and Reading Studio for B1 reading comprehension. Ladder Phonics works from not knowing the letters at all, and I use it with adults too.
Yes. The Teacher plan includes a commercial licence, so you can use the games in lessons you charge for, on any platform. What you cannot do is redistribute the files or resell access. The full terms are on the policy page.
No. Everything runs in your browser. You open the game on your computer and share your screen, so your students install nothing.
Loading the page needs a connection, like any website. After that it does not. All the game logic and data sit in the page and it never calls a server again, so a wobbly connection or a school network blocking a CDN will not white-screen you. The only external request is Google Fonts, and if that fails the page falls back to a system font.
None. Each card in the library says what the game drills, how long it takes and whether it needs a teacher to run it. You pick one and open the link.
Ladder Phonics is not trying to replace a scheme. It is practice. Whichever scheme your student learns from, what they need is a large volume of decodable practice. The 35 groups follow synthetic phonics order, and the words in group N only use sounds taught in groups 1 to N, so the student can always decode rather than guess. Jolly Phonics and Letterland are trademarks of their respective companies and Ladder Lessons is not connected with them.
No. Most classroom games are used once, but these are built to be replayed. In many games the cards and questions are shuffled every round, and the ladders inside (35 phonics groups, vocabulary from A1 to B2, Quick Fire’s Level up) take the same student further each lesson. I’ve taught on AmazingTalker with this library for over two years and never run out, and new games keep being added.
Yes, because the game is the lesson content, not something extra. Quick Fire is your speaking practice, Tense Studio is your grammar practice, Ladder Phonics is your reading practice. You open it instead of a slide, not on top of one, and you can stop the moment time is up because nothing has to be finished.
Call it practice, because that is what it looks like. The parent sees their child reading, answering and speaking for most of the lesson, with you correcting on the spot. There are no scores to chase: the teacher judges each answer, so it plays like a focused exercise on a big screen.
Yes. The Teacher plan includes Ladder Talk, the adult speaking board, with 10 Business English units: Networking, Office Chat, Meetings, Video Calls, Job Interviews, Customer Service, Negotiating, Office Etiquette, Your Industry and Presenting Numbers. Each has 15 discussion questions and 3 real-life role-plays, from B1 to B2. Presentation Script and Hook Lab cover presentations, and Ladder Frames has 221 questions for interviews, opinions and debate.
Yes. IELTS Speaking Room puts all three parts on one screen: you tap what the candidate actually does as they speak, and the report is ready the moment the mock test ends. Ladder Frames gives students answer structures with a time range for each, and Reading Studio practises comprehension the way school tests ask it, including True / False / Not Given with the line that proves it. IELTS Speaking Room and Ladder Frames are in the Teacher plan.
No. Ladder Lessons (ladderlessons.com) is a library of browser games for live 1-on-1 and small-group English lessons, built by Shari Chung, an English teacher who uses it in her own online lessons. It is not connected with LADDER English or any other similarly named course.
The annual Teacher plan works out at HK$90 a month. A quick way to check: divide the yearly price by what you charge for one lesson. That is how many lessons it takes to pay for itself. The annual plan also has a full refund within 14 days, so you can try it in real lessons before you decide.
Yes. The plan renews automatically, monthly or yearly. Open your Payhip receipt, tap Manage subscription and cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Annual plans also carry a full refund within 14 days.
Because each subject has a ladder in it rather than a pile of unrelated games. Ladder Phonics runs from s / a / t up to soft c and g, with each of the 35 groups using only sounds already taught. Ladder Vocabulary runs from A1 to B2. The student knows where they are standing and what comes next.
